Don’t miss out on the new

September 19, 2017 by Publetariat

There is something comfortable about what is known. We know what to expect and don’t have to work harder than necessary. While I am a great fan of exploring the unknown and will always take the road less traveled, you can still get stuck in a rut, or even get overwhelmed by all the options that are out there. With so much information, products, and options available to us, it is easy to be inundated by choices.

Take food graters. We have one that was pretty cool. It was a circle on top of a catch pan that you could rotate around for the grating type you needed. Not your mother’s metal square thing that left a mess. But after spending waaaay too much time trying to grate some lime zest my daughter had the brilliant idea that we really needed a new one. Not technically the language she used but you get the point.  Sure enough, there is this wicked awesome one on Amazon that I ordered and love!

What does this have to do with writing? Everything.

Do you even know what options are out there for you? I know that the written word may not have changed much but the options are pretty cool. Have you checked out adding audiobooks for your title? This is a very hot commodity right now, and there are many advances that make it easy for you to create a quality audiobook that will definitely set your title apart.

What about social media? For one of my paying day jobs, I work for an ebook promotions site. As a courtesy, when we prepare a sponsorship and post it on Facebook, we always try to find the author’s Facebook page and link to it. But there are so many authors who don’t have a page and miss out on this extra opportunity for publicity.

Not every new thing is better. But you won’t know until you look and see.

Have a great day!

Paula

Quick Link: Keeping Organized as a Writer

August 10, 2017 by Publetariat

Quick links, bringing you great articles on writing from all over the web.

Being a pantser comes very easily for me. Finding a story to write and filling out a general plot is never hard. But all the rest of the structure and details and the finer points that make a story worth sharing is a lot harder. Part of that is being organized, cause you don’t need much organization for a basic story you just spit out. Elizabeth Spann Craig has been gracious enough to share how she keeps organized. What is your organizational secret?

Keeping Organized as a Writer

by Elizabeth S. Craig, @elizabethscraig

Not my car.

Being a writer can involve a lot of clutter.

And I don’t even print things out. I’ve trained myself by this time to work as well on the computer as I used to on paper (that way I don’t have the time-consuming process of transferring notes or manuscript text to the computer later).  But there’s a lot of computer clutter.

I’ve found if I can keep my files organized, it helps me to write a lot faster. That’s because I can quickly access the information I need and keep writing my story without getting distracted by something else on my computer (hello, internet).

Here’s my (current) method, using Word.  I’ve gone through a bunch of different iterations and I’d be interested in hearing how you’ve set your own files up.

Quick Link: Audiobooks are the Fastest Growing Book Market: How to Get Your Book Recorded

August 9, 2017 by Publetariat

Quick links, bringing you great articles on writing from all over the web.

Audiobooks are growing in sales and are very popular. You can also use them as part of an up-sell or deal for your customer. Check out the article from Anne R. Allen’s Blog… with Ruth Harris that interviews someone who actually voices audiobooks for a behind-the-scenes look!

Audiobooks are the Fastest Growing Book Market: How to Get Your Book Recorded

An Interview with Audible Narrator C. S. Perryess

Audiobooks are hot.  Especially for adult fiction.

  • People like to listen to audiobooks on their phones.
  • New audio platforms like Amazon Echo and Alexa and Google home make listening to audiobooks convenient and fun.
  • Millennials like audiobooks.
  • There are lots of options for getting them: the library, iTunes, Audible, Google Play.

The Alliance of Independent authors (Alli) says all indies should branch into audiobooks.

But how does an indie author afford the initial expense of hiring a narrator?

One answer: go through the “royalty share” program at Audible, the audiobooks wing of Amazon.

Today I’m talking to the narrator of my audiobooks, C. S. Perryess, who records for Audible (aka ACX.)

July 17, 2017 by Publetariat

Quick links, bringing you great articles on writing from all over the web.

Audiobooks are a hot and growing market. Definitely worth looking into for your title. Romance University‘s contributor Veronica Scott runs down what you need to know if you are thinking of going audio.

Audiobooks: What You Should Know – by Veronica Scott

RU Contributor Veronica Scott discusses factors you should consider if you’re thinking about creating audiobooks.

Since June is Audiobook Month, I thought I should devote my post to that topic. First, some relevant statistics from a December 8, 2016 post on the Goodereader.com website: “Over the course of the past three years the highest growing segment of publishing are audiobooks. The global audiobook industry is currently evaluated at $3.5 billion dollars and the United States is currently the largest singular market with $1.8 billion dollars in audio sales in 2016 and this was a 31% increase from 2015. The Audio Publishers of America has stated that every year for the past three years 36,000 audiobooks were issued.”

Deals! Remains of the Day: Scribd Offering Unlimited Audiobooks Over the Summer

July 17, 2016 by Publetariat

Deals – Cool deals or offers you might be interested in

I am sharing this in place of today’s Quick Link because I don’t want you to miss out. Full disclosure, I don’t make a penny off of any of this. I have friends who are very much into audiobooks and this seems like a great way to relax this summer, along with the other offers in the Lifehacker post

~ * ~

Deals are very nice
Deals are very nice!

From now until the end of September, Scribd is offering unlimited access to over 5,000 audiobooks to subscribers. Sounds like a good way to pass the time while the summer heat keeps us languid.

  • A Scribd subscription costs $8.99 and normally comes with three books and one audio book per month, so the unlimited book buffet until September 30th is a nice perk. There’s also a free two week trial; it’s a nice promotion if you find yourself with a lot of free time and eager ears this summer. [Scribd]
  • In other news, Netflix has a new tool for making a movie playlist called Flixtape. It’s a fun idea with half-baked execution; you can only add six titles, and you can’t include individual episodes from shows. A mixtape with your favorite episodes would be a fun to share! But this is more like finding a cardboard box full of discarded VHS tapes on the sidewalk. [TechCrunch]

How to Create an Audiobook with ACX

January 3, 2016October 26, 2014 by Publetariat

This post by JD Smith originally appeared on Words With Jam on 9/23/14.

ACX is a service provided by Amazon where authors can hook up with narrators and turn their book into an audio book for distribution through Audible, Amazon and iTunes. Up until this year the service was only available in the US, but now it’s available in the UK. Over the last few months I’ve been working with narrator Paul Hodgson on by book The Rise of Zenobia. You can listen to a sample here.

What does ACX actually do?

ACX is basically the interface you use to meet narrators, and deal with all the contractual information once you’ve found a narrator you want to work with. They check the recording quality of audio submitted before it’s put through for distribution. And they also provide a dashboard to keep track of sales and payments.

How do I start?

You log in using your Amazon account and the set up is fairly minimal. ACX pulls most of the information of your book from Amazon and you then add a bit more information, to make your book enticing, such as review quotes and possibly sales figures.
